A first time for everything.

Last night I played chess with my dad and for the first time in my life, I won. That sentence is misleading.... I've won chess before. I've just never won while playing against my dad.

I give credit to 2 people. First, Col - for playing chess with me in Mexico, and providing me with the experience necessary to realize this dream. Second, Troy, for his hours of dedicated tutelage and studied patience. I guess I should also recognize and thank the chess game on Troy's Blackberry (may it rest in peace) for the hours of training it provided.

As a youth, I spent many hours honing my chess skills. I became the family master--humiliating my brother Mike on many an occasion. We used to play 100 game tournaments. We have only 99 games to go. He usually threw the board when his defeat was sealed. (Please do not mention this to Mike as he will change the names in this story)

So now you thank me? Just a few nights ago you were mad because Troy and I were playing chess.

That depends on what your definition of mad is.

Congratulations Aubrey. A true accomplishment, beating your father. I will warn Troy to be on the top of his game for next time he plays you.
And Colman, if I remember correctly, she just wanted in on the action, and away from our terrible Gin game. She played a Caliente card, in Gin!!

We need to have a family chess tournament. How about on Thanksgiving? If we can get a few boards, it could progress over the day. We have a board that we can bring - anyone else?

I like this idea. There is a chance that this chess tournament could entice Troy & Tiffany to choose us over their families for Thanksgiving.

If they are invited to ours, why are they even considering their family?

I nominate Aubrey to organize the tournament. What do you think, $20 or $50 buy-in?
